German Athletes look forward to qualify for Daegu in the Erdgas Mehrkampf Meeting – Athletics news
With the IAAF World Athletics Championships approaching fast, after Japan, Germany too has decided to announce their contingent for the global athletics event, after considering the results produced by athletes in the Erdgas Mehrkampf Meeting. The event
is scheduled to commence on July 16, in Ratingen.
The race, which will serve to be a litmus paper for the form and potential of German athletes, is also the fourth stop of the IAAF Combined Events Challenge. Two of the most important disciplines that local spectators will look forward to are the women’s
Heptathlon and men’s Decathlon competitions.
In Heptathlon competitions, besides other performers, the most dominant of participants will be Brunsbüttel born 27-year-old Jennifer Oeser, who happens to be an IAAF World silver medallist and a bronze medallist at the European championships. The bronze
medallist of the 2003 European Athletics U-23 Championships first earned the attention of her spectators while performing at Berlin, where she ended up second on the podium for earning 6493 points.
Had she not suffered from a fall in the 800m run of the event, she could have displayed an even better result out of the meet. However, the persistent performer went on to improve her personal best to a staggering total of 6683 points at the European championships
in Barcelona, where she finished the event with a bronze in hand.
Appearing on the track in Ratingen in context of Daegu will certainly not be a target for Oeser, as for scoring 6359 points in Gotzis, she is already on board for the trip to Korea. However, she will definitely give her best to observe a success in the event.
On the men’s side, it will be no other than Rico Freimuth, who the spectators will look forward to see leaping for the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Daegu. Freimuth, who is a relatively newer athlete, first emerged as a prominent performer last year
in May, when at Gotzis, his impressive performance helped him bag an astounding total of 8158 points.
The young decathlon specialist, who is the son of the veteran athlete, Uwe, is a favourite candidate to be sent to Daegu for representing his country in the athletics extravaganza.
