German Bundesliga 2010/2011 season – A season in statistics
The 2010/11 Bundesliga season has been amazing to say the least. Borussia Dortmund are on a roll. Bayern Munich have found out that they aren’t a complete club. Werder Bremen, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 and Wolfsburg have seen the other side of life in the Bundesliga
and now truly understand that the grass is not always greener on the other side.
Many managers have come and gone, some will do the same at the season end. Penalty-kicks have been the Achilles heel for many players while visiting teams have found their hosts very hospitable when it came to points. 14th May, the day the league
concludes, is still far away but it is the statistics that are making the league so interesting. There are still at least 6 teams who are not out of the woods in terms of relegation.
It is unlikely that Borussia Dortmund would relinquish their lead at the top at this stage of the season, like Bayer Leverkusen did last February. It is even more unlikely that Bayern Munich will retain the Bundesliga crown. It would be a shame to see Wolfsburg,
Werder Bremen and Stuttgart go down after being crowned champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 one time each in the last 8 years.
Bettor.com takes a look at few of the interesting facts that aren’t the deciding factors in the final furlong, but they are interesting all the same.
Record chasing Jupp
Bayer Leverkusen manager, Jupp Heynckes, is on the verge of equaling Erich Ribbeck’s record of most matches as a Bundesliga coach. The latter has been at the helm 569 times. Overall, it is Otto Rehhagel who has managed 824 times. Jupp will definitely overhaul
Ribbeck’s record but is still some way off Otto Rehhagel’s haul.
Tough times ahead
Borussia Monchengladbach are at the bottom of the table and it just can’t get any worse than this. They will be playing six of their seven games against the top-half-of-the-table teams. The league lagers face Koln on Saturday, which would be a big match
for the struggling side as they look to save their crumbling season.
Super Subs save the day
Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel has had a way with substitutes this season. These ‘super subs’ have scored 13 winning goals for Mainz this term. The record of this particular statistic is with Werder Bremen, who scored 17 goals through substitutes in the 2006/07
league winning season.
Fair play stat
This season, referees have cautioned players 828 times which, if scrutinized closely, is a very good stat. 3.41 yellow cards have been shown on average this season which is the lowest ratio in two decades.
The foreigner
Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485. At this point, the former Bayern Munich man is getting ready for his 331stBundesliga game, which is going to be the most number of games played by a foreigner
in the Bundesliga. Currently, this record is with former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536, Hansa Rostock, Borussia Dortmund, Hamburger and Bayer Leverkusen between 1991 and 2008.
