German Fencing Association propose 15 fencers for U-23 European Fencing Championships – Fencing News
German Fencing Association (GFA) has selected a total of fifteen fencers that will take part in the upcoming U-23 European Fencing Championships, in Kazan, Russia. The championship will be held from May 27-31, in different weapon disciplines for both gender
categories.
First three days will comprise of individual competitions, whereas, the last two days will feature team competitions.
Five among the selected fencers belong to the city Bonn, followed by four from Heidenheim, two from Berlin and one player each, from Tauberbischofsheim, Leipzig, Leverkusen and Solingen.
Junior championship is very well renowned among the young fencers because it sets an international benchmark for the participating nations. This Under-23 event is the brainchild of both the European fencing body and the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
Director of Coordination and Communication of the German Fencing body, Sven Ressel said that due to an unfortunate overlap of dates with a simultaneous German Championship for Sabre fencing, fencers from this weapon discipline have not been announced.
According to GFA, there are chances to end-up with medals at Kazan, as Women foilist, Anne Sauer and Men foilist, Moritz Kroplin will contest in the event. The U-23 shine-outs of Germany include Stephan Rein, Frederic Fark and Julia Cherry.
Director Sports of the German fencing body, Manfred Kaspar, addressed, “We would appreciate it if our young athletes on their recent success could tie.” He added that the federation gives an affirmative thumbs-up for the Kazan Championship.
Results of the event will be available on the internet after the completion of the Championships.
Fifteen fencers selected for the junior event include Beatrice Brock, Julia Cherry, Sina Dostert and Melinda Kövecses for Women’s Epee competition. Anne Sauer, Stephanie Romanus and Roxanne Merkl will represent the Women’s Foil event.
Fencers nominated to represent Germany in Men’s Foil discipline include Frederic Fark, Alyosha Gollan, Kroplin Moritz and Andre Sanita, whereas, Men’s Epee will consist of Stephan Rein, Constantin Böhm, Niklas Multerer and Falk Spautz.
No fencers were selected for Men’s Sabre and Women’s Sabre competition in the U-23 junior event.
