German Masters: Wild-cards and format released
The German Masters for the 2010/2011 season will be played as a “ranking tournament” that will be held in the German city of Berlin between the 2nd and 6th of February, 2011.
The German Masters is a professional snooker tournament. It was initiated as a ranking tournament back in 1995 with the title of “German Open”. In the year 1998 the title name of the tournament was changed to German Masters and its status was also transformed from ranking to a non-ranking tournament.
The qualifying round will take place from December 14th untill December 17th, 2010. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, WPBSA, has announced the qualifiying draw and format for this ranking event of the season.
The German Masters tournament will start with the qualifying rounds followed by a wild-card round, which will then convert into a last-32, last-16, estimating who will then play the quarter-final and semi-final rounds and subsequently the big final match. Qualifying rounds of the tournament will be played at World Snooker Academy, United Kingdom, whereas the rest of the event will be held in Berlin, Germany.
Along with the draw and format for the tournament where wild-cards have been announced, seven out of eight wild-cards have been revealed. The name of the final wild-card player will be released later in january by the WPBSA. These wild-card players will play the eight lowest ranked professional qualifiers.

Well known professional players as well as low ranking players from Europe and Asia are taking part in the tournament. As the German Masters is one of the eight ranking tournaments, players below in the world rankings will try to play their best and improve their rankings.
The tournament is significant in a way that it some-how creates ripples in the pool of snooker concentration. As much of the snooker was limited to United Kingdom, with tournaments like German Masters, China open, and Shinghai Master’s, the sports is spreading to new corners of world.
The qualifying round starts this tuesday, and the draw for the last-32 round is yet to be announced.
Snooker fans across the globe are eager to see another ranking event in the happening, after the climax of the world United Kingdom championship.
