German Men beat Russia 7-0 to reach semi-final of EuroHockey Nations Championship in Germany
Double strike from Jan-Marco Montag and Moritz Furste led Germany to the semi-final as they outclassed their Russian counterparts in a seven goal thriller in their last Pool A match in the EuroHockey Nations Championship (Men) played at Warsteiner HockeyPark
in Monchengladbach, Germany on Wednesday, August 24.
The German athletes remained the dominant partner as they controlled the game exceptionally well in the entire course of action, from the starting siren till the ending minutes where they scored a total of seven goals, three in the first thirty five and
four in the second part of the game while their opponents remained scoreless in the entire match. The game was quite entertaining in each of the two halves as the German athletes dictated the Russians on their own terms, in fact there seemed no match between
the sides.
The Germans started the first half perfectly and opened their account just two minutes into the match when they were awarded first penalty corner of the match to which Jan-Marco Montag was flawless and utilised their first opportunity to the full. Germans
took just another four minutes and doubled their lead in when Montag converted another penalty corner into their second goal in the 6th minute. The Germans continued their attacks with the similar pace but the Russians showed some improvement in
the later part of the first half and the Germans had to wait till the ending moments to further strengthen their lead. However, the Germans eventually succeeded to triple their lead just three minutes before the break when Moritz Furste scored on a penalty
corner in the 32nd minute. The first half ended at 3-0 to Germany.
The second half was also a dominant show by the Germans as they played even better in the second part of the game. They scored their fourth goal in the 48th minute when Thilo Stralkowski made a beautiful field strike. It was just a matter of two
minutes and the Germans were once again in action but this time Christopher Wesley contributed to the scoreboard with a wonderful field goal in the 50th minute. The Germans were unstoppable throughout the match and the Russians remained mere spectator
in the entire time. The Germans played aggressively throughout the match and dominated the Russains.
The Germans scored their sixth goal in the 57th minute when Florian Fuchs ticked the scoreboard before Moritz Furste made it 7-0 for the Germans with the help of an individual effort in the 61st minute. The match concluded at 7-0 to
the Germans who will face the challenge of England, the defending champions, in the semi-final on Friday, August 26.
