German Open GP Gold 2012: Juan Gu stopped the winning run of Lindaweni Fanetri in quarter-final
Singapore’s Juan Gu turns into a major contender for the title as she has powered her way into Women’s Singles semi-final after beating Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri in quarter-final of German Open GP Gold 2012 on Friday, March 2, at Mulheim, Germany.
Juan has been placed at number 17 in Women’s Singles world rankings at the moment. She played remarkable badminton in the whole tournament and continued her winning run in quarter-final contest against the lower ranked Indonesia.
Singaporean lady remained in commanding position in the match and ended it in straight sets by working hard for 42 minutes in the court.
In the opening rallies of first set, both females showed their spirited approach. Nevertheless, Juan was consistent in her positive play and managed an early lead.
The higher ranked Singaporean shuttler showed her aggressive play in the match as she kept the pace of rallies at the highest level. She also employed variations in her strokes and disturbed the flow of Fanetri.
Until the one-minute interval in the first game, Juan was leading the game with a small margin of 11-9.
After the break, Fanetri tried her best to level the score but failed as her opponent was in good control of the game. Juan ended the first set with a reasonable 21-17 score on the board.
In the second set, Fanetri played elevated badminton as she matched the speed of her rival by taking the bird early from all areas of the court.
Until the on-minute interval in the second game, the Indonesian was just behind of Juan at 9-11.
After the break, Fanetri showed aggression and levelled the score by reaching at 15-15. Both ladies progressed closely from this stage and reached at 19-19.
At this breath-taking stage, Juan showed her brilliance as she executed attacking strokes and remained successful in earning two consecutive points to end the game with a tight margin of 21-19.
This Women’s Singles quarter-final ended in 42 minutes with a 21-17 and 21-19 score on the board.
In the semi-final clash, Juan will take on China’s Li Xuerui who tamed Tsz Ka Chan of Hong Kong in another quarter-final contest.
