German Open GP Gold 2012: Li Xuerui outplays Juliane Schenk to claim Women’s Singles title
China’s young player Li Xuerui claims her first Women’s Singles title of the year by beating Juliane Schenk of Germany in the final of German Open GP Gold 2012 at Mulheim, Germany, on Sunday, March 4.
Xuerui, who has been positioned at number six in Women’s Singles world standings, proved that she has what it takes to become the best shuttler in the world as she impressively overpowered the experienced Schenk, who is currently World Number Eight.
The second seed Xuerui lived up to expectations as she was in smashing form and managed to win the match in straight games by working hard for 40 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Schenk played well in the initial stages of the title match but failed to continue her impressive performance as her higher ranked challenger took over the control and managed to win the fight.
Schenk, who was having the support of huge home crowd, initially played well and set up an early lead but failed to maintain it as her rival became quicker in the court.
Xuerui took a slow start but found her rhythm and managed to level the score at 6-6. She remained on track and set up a reasonable lead of 11-8.
After the break, both ladies kept the crowd engaged by playing fast and positive badminton.
Schenk played well and levelled the score at 16-16. They continued in the similar fashion and reached at 19-19.
At this stage, Xuerui played planned badminton and kept the bird low from net which helped her to take the game with a tight score of 21-19.
In the second set, both females again snapped each other’s heel by playing remarkable game until 6-6.
Xuerui took over the control at this stage and established a wonderful lead of 11-7 until the break.
After the interval, Schenk could not produce better form and failed to level the score at any stage in the concluding set.
On the other hand, Xuerui remained positive and composed and eventually bagged the game with a 21-16 score on the board.
The end result of this 40-minute Women’s Singles final contest was 21-19 and 21-16.
