German Open GP Gold 2012: Simon Santoso ousts Anand Pawar to enter into Men’s Singles round-of-16
Indonesia’s Simon Santoso secured his berth in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 after beating India’s Anand Pawar in second round of German Open GP Gold 2012 in Germany, on Wednesday, February 29.
The fifth seed Santoso had to employ all of his skills to overwhelm his lower ranked Indian opponent who played remarkable badminton in the whole contest.
However, Santoso managed to win the battle in well-fought three games by taking 62 minutes in the court.
Pawar stretched his higher ranked rival to three games and remained a little unlucky at the end as he lost the final set with a tight margin.
Santoso displayed his impressive craft and took an early lead by playing with precision. He did not let his Indian opponent to tack charge of rallies and remained ahead on the score board by reaching at 11-6 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Santoso continued his roller-coaster run in the first game by playing flawless badminton.
On the other hand, Pawar was struggling hard to control the pace of rallies but he failed to dominate the game. The Indonesian took the first set with a wonderful score of 21-12.
In the second set, Santoso started the game in an authoritative manner and took a small lead. However, he could not maintain his domination in the game as his rival was playing better badminton.
Pawar showed his aggression this time and managed to level the score by reaching at 8-8. He was ahead of his higher ranked opponent at 11-9 until the break.
After the interval, Santoso tried to control the pace of rallies but failed to play positive game and lost the set with a 15-21 score on the board.
In the final set, Santoso put up superb show of attacking badminton and took a wonderful lead of 11-4 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Pawar played better game and reduced the deficit as his rival was not playing at his best.
However, Santoso played well in the end and managed to bag the final game with a tight margin of 21-19.
This Men’s Singles entertaining fight ended in 62 minutes with a 21-12, 15-21 and 21-19 score on the board.
