German Open GP Gold: Brice Leverdez beats Tien Chen Chou in his Men’s Singles first round encounter
France’s Brice Leverdez advanced into Men’s Singles second round after beating Tien Chen Chou of Chinese Taipei in his first round encounter at the German Open GP Gold 2012 in Germany, on Tuesday, February 28.
Leverdez, who is World Number 35 in Men’s Singles rankings at the moment, put up fabulous show of quality badminton and emerged as the winner against Tien Chen in three sets of 51 minutes.
The French shuttler started his campaign in a shaky way as he lost the first set but fought back strongly and won the following both games to register victory over his rival.
In the first game, Tien Chen stunned Leverdez by playing on a different level as he remained positive and also took an early lead without facing any problem.
On the other hand, Leverdez could not live up to expectations as he completely failed to put up strong resistance against his Taipei challenger and remained behind until the break.
After the interval, Tien Chen continued his smashing run in the concluding half as his rival was not playing at his best. Leverdez remained struggling and lost the set with a huge margin of 10-21.
In the second game, Leverdez found his flow and matched the speed of his opponent. Both men remained close until the end of first half.
After the break, Leverdez played better badminton as he employed his aggressive skills and remained successful in stretching the gap.
He was in good control and also was positive throughout the set and bagged it with a difference of 21-14.
In the deciding set, both men showed their impressive skills by playing to their maximum speed and progressed with the same pace as no one could earn lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the tempo of rallies remained same as both shuttlers put their maximum effort to dominate the pace of game.
They reached at the concluding phase where Leverdez proved his craft and managed to win the set with a tight 21-19 score on the board.
The final result of this Men’s Singles rubber-set contest was 10-21, 21-14 and 21-19.
