German Open GP Gold: Simon Santoso gives a severe lesson to Jan O Jorgensen in semi-final showdown
Indonesia’s ace Simon Santoso showed a strong character when he thrashed Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in Men’s Singles semi-final of German Open GP Gold 2012 at Mulheim, Germany, on Saturday, March 3.
The fifth seed Indonesian, who is currently World Number 11, put up fabulous display of top quality badminton and hammered Jorgensen in straight games without showing mercy.
On the other hand, the World Number 13 Jorgensen could not put up strong resistance against the in-form Indonesian and lost the match without taking any set.
The higher ranked Santoso consumed 46 minutes in the court to stamp his supremacy over his Danish rival and progressed into the final of German Open.
Both players were aggressive in the opening rallies of first game and also remained equal on the score board by reaching at 4-4.
In the meantime, Santoso found his rhythm and started to dictate the pace of rallies. He did not face any problem in finding gaps in his lower ranked rival’s court and remained ahead at 11-9 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Santoso remained in fully dominating position as he rushed towards the end of first game without facing any resistance from his Danish opponent.
He stretched his lead and easily bagged the opening game with a completely one-sided 21-12 score on the board.
In the second set, Jorgensen put up superb show of attacking badminton in the opening points and remained equal to his higher ranked Indonesian challenger.
On the other hand, Santoso could not manage a reasonable lead in the opening half of second set and remained behind at 8-11.
However, the Danish could not maintain his lead as Santoso played well and managed to level the score at 13-13. Jorgensen became a little slow and also failed to manipulate the loopholes of his rival.
At this stage, the Indonesian stunned his opponent by playing aggressive and flawless badminton. He scored eight points in a row to bag the second game with a tremendous 21-13 score on the board.
Santoso won this Men’s Singles semi-final showdown in 46 minutes with a sensational margin of 21-12 and 21-13.
