German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012: Chen Jin topples Brice Leverdez in Men’s Singles second round
China’s experienced player Chen Jin displayed a strong character as he easily toppled Brice Leverdez of France in the Men’s Singles second round of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Wednesday, February 29, at Mulheim, Germany.
The former World Champion Jin, who is currently World Number Five and the second seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, put up superb show of aggressive badminton and emerged as the winner against the lower ranked French player.
Jin did not drop even a single game in his second-round clash and advanced into Men’s Singles round-of-16 in the tournament.
In the first set, Leverdez found a perfect start as he took five consecutive points to set up an early lead of 5-0.
However, he failed to maintain it because his Chinese opponent started to play positive and fast badminton.
Jin increased his speed in all areas of the court and managed to level the score by reaching at 6-6. He did not let his French opponent to dominate the pace of rallies anymore.
Until the one-minute interval in the opening set, the higher ranked Chinese shuttler took a small lead of 11-10.
After the break, Jin geared up his speed and started to stretch his lead by playing dominating game. He played with wonderful aggression and remained ahead of his rival throughout the concluding phase.
Leverdez tried to put up strong resistance but failed to cope up with the speed of his Chinese opponent. On the other hand, Jin remained positive and won the set with a 21-13 score on the board.
In the second game, Jin played dominating badminton from the starting points and remained in complete control in the opening half. Until the break, the second seed was ahead on the score board by reaching at 11-8.
After the break, Leverdez also played well and remained closely behind his higher ranked challenger. He played well in the concluding phase of second game and managed to level the score at 19-19.
At this crucial stage, Jin employed his experience and played fast and attacking game which helped him to score two consecutive points. He bagged the set with a close margin of 21-19.
Jin emerged as the winner in this Men’s Singles contest that ended in 47 minutes with a 21-13 and 21-19 score on the board.
