German Open Grand Prix Gold: Chun Seang Tan stuns Dicky Palyama in first round – Badminton news
Malaysia’s back-up shuttler Chun Seang Tan delivered a sensational performance as he won against Dicky Palyama of Netherlands in the Men’s Singles first round of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 at Mulheim, Germany, on Tuesday, February 28.
The un-seeded Chun Seang, who is currently World Number 82, proved that he has plenty of fire in his belly by playing tremendous badminton against the higher ranked Palyama, who has been placed at number 47 in the world.
The young Malaysia showed his elevated skills against the experienced Dutch opponent and emerged as the winner in three games by spending 45 minutes in the court.
Palyama, who has been playing impressive badminton for the last few months could not stop the progressive run of his lower ranked opponent and lost the match in three games.
In the first set, Chun Seang surprised the crowd with his elevated skills as he played flawless badminton and remained ahead on the score board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the spirited Malaysian continued his dominating play throughout the set and did not let his higher ranked rival to level the score at any stage of opening set.
Chun Seang employed his aggressive and perfect strokes and won the first set with a decent 21-15 score on the board.
In the second game, Palyama changed his strategy and started to play net strokes which helped him to remain in a dominating position.
On the other hand, Chun Seang lost his focus and executed many negative shots which went long and wide of the court. He could not play positive badminton in this game and lost it with a one-sided score of 11-21.
However, in the deciding game, Chun Seang played well and the score also remained equal until 7-7. At this stage, the Malaysian geared up his speed and managed a small lead of 11-9 until the break.
After the interval, Chun Seang put up a wonderful display and stretched his lead by playing flawless game. He remained in control throughout the second half of final set and won it with a margin of 21-15.
Chun Seang emerged as the winner of this sensational fight with a 21-15, 11-21 and 21-15 score on the board.
