German Open Grand Prix Gold: Juliane Schenk secured her berth in Women’s Singles semi-final
Germany’s talented player Juliane Schenk cheered her home crowd as she secured her berth in Women’s Singles semi-final of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012.
In the quarter-final battle, Schenk defeated her lower ranked opponent Inthanon Ratchanok of Thailand on Friday, March 2, in Germany.
The World Number Eight Schenk, who is third seed in Women’s Singles draw, played to her maximum potential and remained successful in winning the fight in three games by taking 61 minutes in the court.
Inthanon played well in the first two games but lost her focus in the deciding set and eventually lost the match with a decent score on the board.
It was undeniably one of the best matches of the day as both players entertained the crowd by playing to their maximum speed throughout the contest.
In the opening set, both ladies displayed an impressive performance by keeping the pace of rallies high and remained close until 6-6. However Schenk took over the control and established a lead of 11-7 until the break.
After the interval, Schenk continued her positive play against Inthanon who failed to live up to expectations in the first set. The German took the first game with a decent margin of 21-17.
In the second game, Inthanon geared up her speed and manipulated the loopholes of her rival. She remained close to Schenk until the end of first half.
After the break, they remained toe-to-toe until 15-15 when Schenk lost her focus and executed many negative strokes. She eventually lost the second game with a five-point deficit of 16-21.
In the deciding game, Schenk showed her brilliance as she created pressure on her rival and managed a wonderful lead of 11-5 in the first half.
After the break, the German continued her domination in the game by playing killing badminton. She was fully focused and bagged the set with a superb score of 21-10.
Schenk emerged as the winner of this quarter-final clash with a 21-17, 16-21 and 21-10 score on the board.
In the semi-final, Schenk will take on the top seed Wang Xin of China who defeated Korea’s Ji Hyun Sung in another quarter-final match.
