German Quiroga to make his Truck Series Debut at New Hampshire – NASCAR news
Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) announced earlier this week that NASCAR Mexico series champion, German Quiroga will be making his Truck Series debut at the F.W. Webb 175 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday.
Quiroga is going to race in the No.51 Toyota Tundra and is being sponsored by Telcel. Quiroga is on a one-race contract with KBM and negotiations for next season are possible should Quiroga agree.
The 31-year-old Mexican is the two-time defending champion in the Corona Series and currently holds a 110-point lead with four races to go in the series schedule.
In his only appearance in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, he finished 20th in the 2007 Telcel-Motorola Mexico 200 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Mexico
He has 15 career wins to his name and stands second on the all time wins list in the series. He managed to finish 12th in the 2011 NASCAR All Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway in January.
Quiroga was pleased to be given this opportunity and thanked everyone involved in the deal. He vowed to continue working hard and look to achieve new goals that he has set for himself. He also said that trying out NASCAR in the United States was the logical
step up for him in his career.
“I believe that to continue my growth as a professional driver, the logical next step is to explore opportunities to drive NASCAR in the United States, and I hope that this weekend's race is just the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship with Kyle
Busch Motorsports,” Quiroga said.
Kyle Busch Motors were also pleased to have signed Quiroga and believed that Quiroga has earned it by making himself the best driver in the Mexico Series. KBM General Manager Rick Ren said that this one race is just for Quiroga to test himself at this level
and if he finds it suitable, a future relation could be discussed.
Keeping with NASCAR’s efforts of trying to promote itself in Mexico, Ren felt that it was a great move for the sport and promoting diversity will increase the following of the game.
“The strong international presence we currently have in the Truck Series with Max Papis, Miguel Paludo and Nelson Piquet Jr. is a major reason that our fan base continues to grow and our television ratings continue to increase.” Ren said.
NASCAR aims to have a Mexican driver run in the Sprint Cup Series, which it hopes will skyrocket its popularity in Mexico. The last Mexican driver to race both in the NASCAR Corona Series and NASCAR Sprint Series was Jorge Goeters, who raced at Watkins Glen
in 2005.
