German Robert Stieglitz all set to defend his title against Aussie Nader Hamdan – Boxing News
Robert Stieglitz, the current WBO super middleweight champion, will enter the ring to defend his title for the sixth consecutive time against the Aussie Nader Hamdan, the current WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will
be held on May 5, 2012.
The above duo will take on each other in the undercard of the pay-per-view jointly organised and promoted by Wilfried Sauerland of Sauerland Event and Ulf Steinforth of Sport Events Steinforth.
The event will be headlined by the much anticipated WBO cruiserweight championship bout between Marco Huck and Ola Afolabi whereas the Saturday night showdown will be co-headlined by the EBU (European) and IBF International heavyweight title bout between
Alexander Dimitrenko and Kubrat Pulev.
Robert and Nader recently met at the pre-bout press conference and shared their thoughts about the upcoming engagement. Robert, 30, has been in a total 43 bouts and boasts 41 wins with 23 of them via knockout.
He has lost just two bouts in his whole career and since his last defeat against Librado Andrade, the German number one super middleweight is on a 10-bout win streak. Furthermore, he has evolved into a prolific pugilist and grabbed his WBO title by collecting
a technical knockout decision win against Karoly Balzsay.
The orthodox Robert has defended his title five times against names such as Enrique Ornelas, Henry Weber and others. His Saturday night opponent, Nader, is an Aussie veteran who has been in a total 53 bouts.
The 38-year-old has successfully nailed 43 opponents and 18 of them via knockout. The Aussie proud, also known as ‘The Lionheart’, has grabbed various titles in his illustrious career but is currently undergoing a bit tough time of his career.
In his last five bouts, Nader has collected just one win against Daniel Pawsey and has lost three bouts and collected one draw decision in the fifth one. In addition, his sluggishness and the fact that he is losing his edge can be understood by his recent
performances in which he has lost bouts to rookies such as Les Sherrington, and Junior Talipeau.
Despite this fact, Nader was confident and did not show any signs of stress during the media interaction. Hamdan commented, “I didn’t think twice about accepting the fight as I have nothing to lose.”
On the other hand, Robert while expressing his thoughts remarked, “Right know I am not even thinking about facing Arthur. I am only concentrating on the next fight. As soon as I have won the bout on Saturday night, we can start talking about Arthur Abraham.”
It must be noted that for Robert there is another huge motivational factor that is if he wins the bout he will become the number one contender for Arthur Abraham’s WBO European super middleweight title.
