German Sandra Gal leads the second round of Avnet LPGA Classic golf tournament – Golf news
Germany’s Sandra Gal managed a score of 5-under par, 67 in the second round of the Avnet LPGA Classic golf tournament to surge into lead.
The 72-hole event is taking place at the Crossing Course at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Alabama.
The German diva reeled eight birdies against three bogeys to compose an aggregate of 5-under par. She teed off from the front-nine and bogeyed the par-3 second hole. The loss was sudden, but that did not break her morale. Gal countered the loss with blistering
three birdies later in the day and wrapped the front-nine with a score of 1-under par.
She walked towards the back-nine and repeated the same. She bogeyed the opening hole and netted three back-to-back birdies to remain in contention. On her way to the clubhouse, the winner of Kia Classic picked two more birdies and wrapped the day with a
score of 5-under par.
Gal was pleased with her game. On her way to the clubhouse, she said, “I'm playing well. I am just enjoying myself out there. I mean, I am not doing anything really different. I have been playing solid since the end of last year. Just winning, you know,
I think you get more comfortable at the top. Being in the lead is something - you know, you want to be there and feel comfortable there, so that's probably the difference now.”
The 25-year-old talked about the warm welcome she received back in her country. She said that people approached her and congratulated her over her recent triumph, which was extremely motivating.
One stroke shy of the leader was Amy Yang from South Korea. The pro teed off from the back-nine and reeled five birdies to compile a score of 5-under par. However, she could not relish the same success on the front-nine. She failed to pick a single birdie
and dropped a shot on the opening hole.
A three-way tie was seen at the third place, which included Karen Stupples and Stacy Lewis, who posted scores of 71 each and South Korean Song-Hee Kim who finished at par.
