Question:

German Shepherds Ears?

I have a 5 1/2 month old White Male German Shepherd. He was 8 weeks old when I got him and his ears have always stood up from the beginning. Now all of a sudden his left ear started drooping. I had him neutered a week ago, he has had his shots and he has been wormed. Do you think his ear will stand back up? I love him regardless ears up or down he is my baby but I am curious if his ear will stand back up or not.

  1. His ears are growing. As the ears thicken up they will most likely stand back up. I never let anyone touch my shepherds ears.

  2. some german shepherds just have one floppy ear. I think thats adorable! ^.^ I love the one floppy ear look.

  3. i have two german shepherds, i'm not sure how old they were when their ears stayed up, but i do know that there was a short period of time for each of my dogs when only one ear was up and the other ear drooped. my dogs are fully grown now and both of them have ears that stand up.

also, the ear could be drooping because of damaged cartilage in the ear. if you or someone else has been 'playing' with his ears, the cartliage could have been damaged and this would cause the ear to droop permanently.

  4. At his age he can be loosing his baby teeth, and getting his adult teeth.  It is common for GSDs to have one or both ears flop down during this time, as nutrients are being channeled into healthy teeth.  If his ears have both stood before, when he is done teething they should go right back up again.  Good luck (and don't worry!)

  5. well, i have a chihuahua and one ear stands straight up while the other flops down sometimes.

maybe it's just a think all dogs have.

  6. Yeah his ear should stand back up, if not you can always tape something in it and train it to stand up again. I like a German Shepherd with one floppy ear, I think its so cute. I had a German Shepherd puppy once that neither of her ear stood up and she had a stumped tail, (her mom bit it off when she was born) Hope this helps you out
