German Steffen Deibler improves to 15th place in the world rankings – Swimming News
After his impressive performance in the 50m freestyle prelims held at the German World Championships Selection Meet in Berlin, six-time European champion, Steffen Deibler, has moved up to the 15th spot in the world rankings.
The German swimmer snagged the Men’s 50m freestyle prelims with a winning time of 22.26 seconds. Marco Di Carli grabbed the second spot in 22.49 seconds in the 50m free prelims.
The short distance butterfly and freestyle specialist has secured many significant titles in swimming. He claimed the 4x50m medley title in the 2005 European Championships in Trieste. He nabbed the corresponding event in the 2007 European Championships in
Debrecen.
Deibler also clinched four gold medals in the Men’s 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 10m butterfly and the 4x50m medley finals in the 2010 European Championships in Eindhoven.
On the other hand, Britta Steffen took home the Women’s 50m freestyle prelims with a winning time of 24.98 seconds and switched to the 12th place in the world rankings. Dorothea Brandt earned the second place in time of 25.03 seconds, whereas,
Daniela Schreiber rounded out the top three in 25.56 seconds.
Steffen is a double Olympic champion of Western Germany. She claimed the Women’s 50m and 100m freestyle titles in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She also secured two gold medals in the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
The freestyle specialist nabbed four gold medals in the 2006 European Championships in Eindhoven. Besides, she clinched two golden crowns in the Women’s 50m and 100m freestyle finals in the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok.
Both Steffen Deibler and Britta Steffen without question are world-class performers of Germany in competitive swimming today. Their performance in the current selection meet in Berlin has clearly proved the fact that the athletes still have the ability to
put up a challenging performance at the international level.
Despite his stunning performances in the past, Deibler still has to claim his first ever world championship and Olympic Games title. With the current form he is in, other opponents will surely keep an eye on the German, who is improving his game with time.
