Has anyone ever been? Which ones? I especially love the ones at Cologne. They are so magical, I love walking around them smelling the gluwein and spices Mmmmm. A fantastic holiday if you love to celebrate xmas (and the Germans certainly know how to do that).

  1. I am a Bavarian girl and definetly would say:

    - Munich @ Marienplatz

    - Nurnberg

    They are breathtaking!

  2. yes , we do have lovely markets and i missed them since i am here.

  3. Black forest area has awesome ones. Overall, I love them all in Germany. The one in Trier, Germany (Rheinland Pfalz) is awesome too as it is in the medieval part of the two, just like the one in Saarbrücken, Saarland. There is one in Chicago, which is a nice diversion, but nothing like the ones in Germany, though everyone participating are flown in from Germany directly.

  4. The Christmas Markets are great!  We even have one here in Chicago that is the world's largest 'outside of Germany' but is great fun, with lots of good food, treats, ornaments and fun toys.  Makes me want to go back to Germany every year.

  5. Berlin has some great ones too...

  6. Nurnberg was great. I like their mini sausages and their international booths were nice too.

  7. I have at least a dozen of the 'Gluewein' mugs from all over Germany. Dortmond is suppused to have the world's largest Christmas tree(actually many small trees attached to a steel frame), Mainz is very nice, my personal favorite is Frankfurt. I love standing there in the cold, drinking gluewein, and listening to the songs from the Bing Crosby 'White Christmas' album, and the food - forget about the diet! Plus I can always find a few wonderful gifts for Christmas.

  8. i have been to the christmas markets in kiel and hamburg.  i tried going to the market in chicago, but it wasnt the same.  i know what you mean about how magical they are.

  9. I went to the markets in Cologne for several years on the trot! They are fantastic, we ate our way round, all the delicious foods on offer,a nd when full up with that, got stuck in to the gluhwein, often with a slug of sprits in, didnt matter how cold it was then!! The atmosphere is fantastic, the sights, smells, tastes, music, somethign for all the senses

  10. The German Xmas Markets are great! I live in Wiesbaden and the markets here and in Mainz are great! I would also say the markets in Garmish are nice  also
