  1. Salix laevigata, syn S. congesta, red willow is a native tree of North America and neither Zander, Wörterbuch der Pflanzennamen ( dictionary of plant names ) nor Marzell ( same title, 5 vol. ) list a German name for this tree.

    "Red willow" means "Rotweide", Salix is Weide > willow, laevigata means glatt > sleek, plain and congesta gedrängt > crowded, terse.

    The most plausible German name seems to be Rotweide.
