  1. Pumpernickel with cream cheese, chopped spring onions and raisins.

    It is gorgeous.

  2. i love german food. theres this german restaurant i like going to that has a dish that includes a bratwurst (sausage), knockwurst (kinda like a big hot dog with out the bun), red cabbage, sauerkraut, german style mashed potatoes, and a pork chop. then wash it down with a couple half liters of spaten oktoberfest on draft. omg... orgasmic.

  3. aren't hamburgers german??? i dunno  maybe hot dogs too?? i'm srry im not from europe. i shouldn't even be answering.... oh well

  4. Omg omg omg! I love German fooooooooooooood! Try Nutella, you put it on bread... omg omg omg, I love it! Theres this german store down the road... omg omg omg... lols.

  5. How about "Reibekuchen"? It's potato pancakes. You take raw potatoes (for one person: about 1 huge or two good-sized ones), skin it and grate it. You add one finely diced onion (size of the onion depends on how big your potatoes were or on how much you like onions) and add it to the potatoes. Than you add an egg and a tablespoon of flour or potato starch, salt, pepper and, if you want to, ground nutmeg. Mix into a batter (consistency: a little chunky, but fluid, just like a norma pancake batter). Bake pancakes. Serve with apple sauce, cinnamon and sugar.

Note: that is not a desert, even though it might feel like one. It is a sweet main dish.

There also is another sweet main dish, called "Dampfnudel", whcih has a lot to do with "dampf" (=steam), and little with a "Nudel" (=noodle), or Germknödel (which is the Austrian term for it, but it is the same dish, anyway).

You make a semi-sweet yeast dough and form dumplings out of it. You fill those with two teaspoons of plum jam each (make sure to close the dumpling well around the filling) and steam them (best use a pressure cooker, or a steamer, if you have one). Serve with crushed poppy seeds and powdered sugar, and vanilla sauce (best use instant vanilla pudding powder, and use about 1.5 times the amount of milk that they give on the sachel to prepare it). YUM!

    "Semmelknödel mit Pfifferlingen":

Semmelknödel are dumplings made out of bread or rolls. You cut up the rolls (two for every person you mean to serve) or bread and let it dry out for about a day or two. Than you soke them in a milk/broth mixture until they are really glib. You drain them and press out some of the fluid, than add herbs (chives, parsley), finely chopped onions (half an onion for every person you wish to serve), crumbled bacon, and an egg for every person you wish to serve, and mix everything. Try to form dumplings out of it, and if it won't stay in form (you need to be able to sit the dumplings on a surface without them loosing their form), add potato starch or flour to your mix until they will stay in form. Cook them in salt water for about 20 minutes (they will need to be able to swim!).

Pfifferlinge are mushrooms. Chanterelles, to be exact. YOu clean them, and together with finely chopped onions, fry them in a pan. You can also add bacon, if you want to, but cut it into pieces before you put it in. You add parsley, salt and pepper, and cream. Than you let it simmer until the sauce has a nice, creamy, not too fluid texture. Serve with the dumplings and enjoy!

  6. I apologize, but only know of the cake, which I make and the hotdogs.  take care and enjoy.

  7. pork and sauerkraut you can't go wrong.  Brown or grill some pork chops then place them in a baking pan and smother with sauerkraut.  If the sauerkraut is too tangy...you can tame it down with a cup of apple juice or two cups of chopped apples mixed with the k***t.  bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.....mmmm good

  8. my mother used to make cabbage rolls. they were made with green cabbage , white rice, bacon bits, salt and pepper to taste. boiled in water and about  3 tbs of white vinegar. they were great. home made apple strudel, she also made dough, then rolled it out cut it in squares and put seasoned mashed potato's with salt, black pepper and bacon bits in it. then she boiled it. it was good as well. i don't know the german name of Any of this. these were family recipes .

  9. Germany, like many countries, has different regional foods and there is also a German-from Russia food group that is somewhat different but also fabulous.    There is even an area of Germany that is influenced by the French and that cuisine is called Alsatian.  You could be eating kuchen or pirogi or Jeagerschnitzel, made with pork, lots of good sausages all with lots of k***t and beer.  When do we eat?
