  1. German restraints?  Are the n***s back?

Koenig's in Floral Park, right by the LIRR train station.  Best around.  Then pick up a loaf of Koenig's rye and a Black Forest cake at Tulip Bakery around the corner.

Best German restaurants are in old German neighborhoods.  Neiderstein's closed, Triangle Hofbrau closed too.  When the neighborhood changes............

  2. Cafe Steinhof is an amazing Bavarian restaurant and bar in Park Slope, Brooklyn, right off the F train. The food is incredible (everything from schnitzel to rosti, spaetzle, wursts, and sauerbraten) and they have a ton of different beers and some Austrian and German wines. I brought my mom there (she's from Germany) and she loved it. Quite an accomplishment for a German mom! The atmosphere is super cozy, too. I totally recommend it. I searched for the website and here it is:

    Prost!

  3. Rolf's is pretty good, although it bills itself as French Bavarian, but great dishes like sauerbraten, schnitzel, spaetel (sp?), crispy potato pancakes; large portions. It also serves a great selection of German wines. Lunchtime has a $19.95 special includes a glass of beer or wine. One of the features is the decorations that change with each season; a unique place!  reservations advised.

"The atmosphere and staff take you out of the city and into a relaxed, festive setting where you can enjoy great food, character and charm. Rolf's also has a popular neighborhood bar with friendly clientele and bartenders eager to please."

    3rd Avenue @ 22nd Street

        $$$

  4. It's one of the hardest things to find.  Hallo Berlin had great food and was really casual but the service was God aweful.  Zumstandtisch (spelling?) in Queens is good as well.  Rolffs was ok but overpriced.

I rarely get decent German outside of home and Germany.  Good luck.

  5. Olive garden. :D

  6. The Silver Swan on 20th Street and Park Avenue.  Good food, reasonable prices.  They have a three-course early-bird special for $17 or $18.  The desserts are wonderful.
