German shuttlers advance through to the main round of the German Open Grand Prix Gold
German badminton players have advanced to the main round in the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, after winning their matches in the Men’s Singles qualifying rounds, on March 1, at Mulheim, Germany.
Fabian Hammes of Germany defeated compatriot Alexander Roovers in three-sets, whereas, another German player, Hannes Kaesbauer, outclassed Maxime Moreels of Belgium in straights games to step into the main round of the event.
Fabian started the opening game with a mixed approach of defensive and offensive play according to the situation. He remained defensive in the opening points and gradually geared up his speed by hitting down the line smashes and fast pushes. Alexander was
apparently under pressure and could not match the speed and quality of the game of his opponent. Fabian established a clear lead in the first-half of the opening game and maintained it until the end of the set. The score of the opening set was 21-9.
Alexander made a strong comeback in the second-set by matching the speed and skills of his experienced team-mate. The score remained quite close right from the start of the game until the ending points, where both players were tied at 20-20. Fabian made
a couple of mistakes at this crucial stage that spared an opportunity for Alexander, who scored the remaining two points in a row. He won the second game by 22-20.
In the deciding set, Fabian employed his superb tactical skills and maintained a decent lead throughout the entire set. He finished the set by a respectable difference of 21-16. The match between these two compatriots took 47 minutes of quality badminton.
The winner, Fabian Hammes, will be facing another German shuttler, Sven Eric Kastens, in the main round of the German Open Gran Prix Gold 2011.
Another German player, Hannes Kaesbauer, won his qualifying round match against Maxime Moreels of Belgium. Hannes took only 21 minutes to outclass his opponent in straight-sets and advanced into the main round of the event.
The first game of the match was completely one-sided, where the German proved that he belongs to a superior class of badminton. Hannes consumed only 10 minutes to take a quick lead in the first game and won it by a wonderful difference of 21-9.
In the following game, however, Maxime played better but his effort was not enough to beat the German. The score progressed at an equal pace for both players until the first-half of the set. Then, Hannes started to pace up the rallies and pushed the Belgian
in all corners of the court. The German won the second game in 11 minutes with a 21-15 score on the board. Hannes Kaesbauer will meet Wah Ho Shon, the number seven seed of the event, in the main round of the tournament.
