German shuttlers set to snatch European Champion title from Denmark – Badminton News
The European Championships has reached its climax and the German shuttlers are in high spirits to win the crown at judgment day on April 21, 2012.
Germany has stakes in the finals of three events and its campaigners are determined to challenge Denmark’s supremacy in Europe.
Men’s Singles expert Marc Zwiebler will strive hard to escort the country to glory before the duo Michael Fuchs-Oliver Roth who will represent the country in Men’s Doubles finals while Juliane Schenk will swing her arms for Women’s Singles title.
Earlier in semi-final round, Zwiebler proved his worth against higher ranked Dane Jan O Jorgensen and outclassed him in straight sets.
The German showed a consistent performance throughout the Championships and he thinks that helped him against the second seed Jan who relatively had an easy ride to the semi-finals.
Zwiebler said, “I think I benefited from some tough matches through this tournament so far. Jan has had an easy route after the withdrawal of Wacha and this was his first real test.”
This commendable semi-final win pit him against the Swedish player Henri Hurskainen who has registered his class after beating the World Number four Danish player Peter Gade and former Junior World Champion Viktor Axelsen in previous rounds.
Zwiebler will have to face double trouble in shape of Henri and the crowd who will be supporting the hometown favourite as he is aware of the challenge and confident to pass this test.
He said, “I will have not only a battle against Henri who is in the form of his life, but also against this great crowd here in Sweden.”
Meanwhile, the Women’s Singles shuttler Juliane Schenk is also fully charged to show her best when she meets top seed Danish girl Tine Baun in the final match.
Juliane earned this right by beating the Dutch competitor Yao Jie in semi-final round and she hoped that the judgment day will also belong to her.
She said, “It is Tine and I again. I hope that tomorrow just may be my day.”
Germany will be banking on its male duo Michael Fuchs-Oliver Roth for Men’s Doubles crown as they are scheduled to lock horns with top seed couple Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen of Denmark.
The German duo is confident to repeat the semi-final show when they surpassed another Danish couple Rasmus Bonde-Anders Kristiansen.
