  1. If you are staying at a hostel in a dorm, you'll have good chances  of meeting people at the hostel. If the Meininger's or the AO in Munich is similar to the ones in Berlin, try talking to people in the lounge or at the bar.

  2. German's are very, very friendly, so I would suggest hanging out at Marienplazt and Karlsplatz (Stachus) and just striking up conversation.  They will be totally fine with that.

Also, be sure to acquaint yourself with the city, because there are different boroughs for different interests. For example Schwabing  is very bohemian and full of students, so there is always a lot going on there, while Bogenhausen, right next to Schwabing, is more of a suburban, ritzy place, that practically shuts down at night. Haidhausen is closer to the center of the city than Schwabing, and is very trendy and fun as well.

As long as you're friendly, you will have no problems meeting people. Munich is a very large city that is full of life! Just get the language down (though in an emergency or if you were unsure of how to say something, finding an English speaker is not hard) and remember: "München mag dich!" (the city's motto)

  3. Even though you already have your reservations, you can at least try to meet people by joining couchsurfing.com. You can make friends there, then you'll at least know people you can possibly have dinner with, etc.

Most importantly, have fun! Germany has lots of wonderful people and centuries of history, so take a digital camera and extra memory cards, and lots of Lithium batteries.

  4. Sprechen zie Deutsch?

    Germans are friendly people.

  5. Stay in a Hostile, Many young people do and they are a great way to really experience the culture and gain friends. Germans are really nice and if they see you sitting alone most often they will sit with you at a restaurant.
