This Wednesday morning I will arrive in Frankfurt Germany and I have a few questions.

1. What is the cheapest way to get to Heidelberg from the Frankfurt Airport?

2. What is the weather like now?

3. I leave Germany on Sunday, should I only visit Heidelberg or is there another city between Heidelberg and Frankfurt I should visit?

4. Any suggestions?

  1. Take the train from Frankfurt to Heidelberg.  Weather sucks and is changeable.  No snow though.  Yes, Heidelberg is it.  The rest is boring.

  2. The Train or Bahn is the fastest way to go to heidelberg.   There is a large trainstation at the airport and trains run regularly to Heidelberg.  That's how I go when I fly.   The weather this weekend was great.  It was warm and sunny and people were out on the Neckar eating ice cream and such.  However today it is gray and rainy.  The weather is like that here though.  Pretty unpredictable.  Go to Mannheim.  It's close and has some nice things to see.

  3. Note that there are supposed to be buses running between Heidelberg and Frankfurt airport, specifically for the tourists visiting that tourist trap. I don't know anymore about this though, but it would be worth searching on the net for this info.

I personally would take the train, it is fast and the least hassle. There is a train station and a ticket office directly at the airport. Fare should be about 12 EUR one-way and trains will run about every hour.

Wheather is bound to be cool. No snow, temps between 0 and 10 C (30 to 50 F), some wind and rain, some sunshine.

The mitfahrzentrale mentioned above has a website, see http://www.mitfahrzentrale.de It is an informal ride-share service, private people offering you a lift in their cars as long as you pay a share of the gas. It is the cheapest way to travel in Germany, but the least reliable.

  4. The place mpaspas is referring to, is the "Mitfahrzentrale". You best bet would be to call the one in Frankfurt. There they can tell you if anyone is going in the direction of Heidelberg from the airport. Next to hitchhiking that would be the cheapest way to get there.

I would take the train leaving below Terminal 1.

2.Right now it is raining a little at 10 degrees (Centigrade).

On Saturday they had an amazing 16 degrees. On Wednesday there will be light showers, around 12 degrees.

3.Would be a shame if you just went to see Heidelberg. Between Heidelberg and Frankfurt there is a city called Darmstadt. In the city centre there is the "Ratskeller". It is a micro-brewery in the old city hall. They have great beer! Looking across the market square you will see the castle. guided tours in English are offered there. About a half mile up the street you will find a hostel. Was renovated last year. On the way to the hostel you will pass the "An Sibin", an Irish pub.

That is where all the English speaking people meet. There are many things in and around Darmstadt to see. From Frankenstein castle to Oberwaldhaus park. Best thing to do is, go to the tourist information in the Luisencenter (a three minute walk from the Ratskeller).

This should keep you busy. Hope I have helped.

Have a safe and pleasant journey!

  5. Ask in the airport about how you can go to Heidelberg. There is this: "Mitfahr zentrum", it is a center, people tell where there ate traveling and how many places they have free in the car. So they can take you with and they charge you, but it is not so expensive.

I think Cologne is a real nice city, which you can visit. It is by fast train almost one hour from Frankfurt.

The weather in Frankfurt is Maximal 9 Minimal 0 C! But you can also look at weather in yahoo!
