Germany beat Pakistan by 2-1 at Four-Nations tournament in Amsterdam, Netherlands
Germany, one of the European hockey might, scored an important victory over Pakistan by 2-1 in the Rabo Four-Nations hockey tournament being played in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on July 1.
The match was quite a close contest between the German giants and the Greenshirts, where the latter played fairly well in the first half, while the Germans fairly dominated the later part of the game. Greenshirts could find the German net only once in the
match, while Germany scored two goals, one in first 35 minutes and the second in the second half.
Pakistan took only a few seconds into the first half to score the opening goal of the match, when Shakeel Abbasi exhibited a stunning effort before passing the ball to Muhammad Zubair, who made a flawless shot into the goal-post and put Greenshirts ahead
of their German rivals by one goal to nil.
Pakistan was leading with the same score to the interval, but just a minute before the half time, Germany was successful in scoring the equaliser, when Jan-Macro Montag converted their first penalty-corner into a goal, thus levelled the score.
Earlier before the equaliser, the Greenshirts had three pure chances of scoring, but could not finish those chances perfectly. The first half ended at 1-1.
In the second half, the Germans looked more disciplined in their approach and possessed the ball for most of the time playing in Pakistan’s half. They scored the deciding goal of the match in 43rd minute of the second half and was scored by Moritz Furste,
which eventually led them to victory.
Markus Weisse, the German coach, did not look a happy man regarding his team’s narrow victory against the Greenshirts.
“I can’t say I liked the game and no one deserved a prize for the performances out there,” Markus Weisse stated his views about the match.
Khawaja Junaid, the manager of Pakistan national hockey team, showed some concerns over team’s finishing ability as the Greenshirts missed a number of potential chances especially in the first half.
“We missed some sitters and we need to be stronger on the ball and we need to finish stronger but we have time to make the improvements we need before the Champions Trophy in New Delhi at the end of the year,” Khawaja Junaid, the manager of Pakistan national
hockey commented after the match.
Meanwhile the other match of the day between the hosts, Netherlands and England ended in a draw at a score of 2-2.
