Germany coach pleased with Euro 2012 qualifying campaign
Germany national team coach Joachim Low is delighted with his side’s start to the UEFA 2012 European Football championship qualifying campaign.
They emerged victorious over Kazakhstan on Tuesday, October 12, with second-half strikes from Miroslav Klose, Mario Gomez and Lukas Podolski. This means that Germany has won all four of their games so far, leaving them five points clear at the top of Group
A.
They have also conceded only one goal, meaning that they have gotten off to an almost perfect start to the campaign.
Low told reporters on Wednesday, “We have completed the task with a 3-0 win and taken three points. With 12 points so far, we have a brilliant record which makes me happy. What the team has done in recent months is sensational. We now have a comfortable
lead, although we still have to keep winning matches."
Podolski was also pleased that the Germans were able to claim maximum points from each of their first four matches.
"It took us a while to get going and we missed some chances, but in the second half we upped the pressure. Our target was 12 points from four games and we have achieved that."
Germany is now atop a group that includes Austria, Turkey, Belgium, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. They are looking to build on a successful 2010 FIFA World Cup, which saw them finish the tournament in third place after a string of impressive performances. The
Germans’ next qualifying match for Euro 2012 will take place in March next year when they play host to Kazakhstan.
The national team has not won a major international tournament since Euro 1996 in England, although they were runners-up to Brazil at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
