Former Germany international, Dietmar Hamann, believes nerves played a big part in Mannschaft’s 2-1 loss to Italy.
Joachim Low’s side were in sensational form when the tournament kicked off, and picked up nine points from three games, beating the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884. The heavily fancied side eased into the last four of
the 2012 European Championships.
The real test awaited them in the semi-finals; Die Mannschaft had to face Italy, a team who they had never beaten in a major competition. The Azzurri had a record of seven consecutive victories in competitive matches against Germany.
Prior to the game there was a lot of talk about DFB eleven’s inability to beat the Italians. Many pundits regarded Cesare Prandelli’s side as Nationalelf’s bogey team. There was a lot of pressure on the Germans due to their favourites’
tag and their record against Italy.
Following Mannschaft’s loss to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 man accused Joachim Low’s side of bottling it when it matters. He pointed towards the previous three
semi-finals where Germany crumbled under expectation and pressure.
“When it comes to the crunch we've lacked the mental strength to deal with the pressure," "We've reached the knock-out stages of the last four major finals, And on all four occasions we've looked as though the pressure was too
much,” he is quoted as saying in an interview.
Hamann reckons it is not just the German national team that falters on the big stage; Bayern Munich did the same in this year’s UEFA Champions League. In his point of view like DFB eleven, the Bavarian giants did so well to get
to the final but were unable to lift the trophy.
"It's not just our national team. Bayern Munich couldn't cope with the expectation and the pressure when it came to the Champions League final against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786,” he added.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 have made it a habit of impressing in majority of the matches of a major tournament and then fading out when it matters. Joachim Low will have to instil some belief in his talented youngsters, who still have time on their
side. The Mannschaft need their senior players to step up and lead the team in times of trouble.
