Germany crushes underdog Chinese Taipei in straight sets – Volleyball news
German women’s national volleyball team took on Chinese Taipei on Sunday in the last match of opening leg of the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix and clinched success.
Germany overcame Chinese Taipei in three consecutive sets, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-15). Germany improved to 2-1 in the tournament, while Chinese Taipei remained dropped another chance to break the ice.
German trio of Maren Brinker, Margareta Kozuch, and Christiane Furst displayed incredible action on the net and dominated the opponents. They added 14, 12, and nine points, respectively. Chinese Taipei, on the other hand, was led by Teng Yen-Min who contributed
10 points in the loss.
Chinese Taipei was no match for strong Germans. The C.T. squad started off really slow and gave out too many points in first few minutes. Germany controlled the operations of the game and added a flurry of points. Germans rallied from 8-1 to 12-1, which
dragged the opposite team under huge pressure. Chinese Taipei progressed at snail’s pace and failed to create any buzz on the centre court. The German ladies took full advantage of their better physique and finished the opening set with fair margin of 14 points
(25-11).
In the following set, Chinese Taipei played comparatively better but still it was not enough to rise above the resilient rival. Germany kept the lead in hand and hit from all angles. Chinese Taipei lagged behind and dropped the second set with 10 points,
15-25.
After the loss two sets in row, Chinese Taipei took a 3-0 lead in the third set but soon lost the momentum. Germans chased the score and regained better status. Thereafter Germany led all the way till end and finished the final set at 25-15.
“I want to congratulate the organizers of the Grand Prix in Santo Domingo. The Gym is beautiful and very functional. I also want to congratulate my team for being consistent during the tournament. We lost to USA but overall we feel satisfied since our goal
was to improve our performance,” said German coach Giovanni Guidetti after the match.
Norimasa Sakakuchi, coach of Chinese Taipei stated, “Congratulations to Germany. Their good serves complicated matters for us. Playing against teams like Germany give us the opportunity to learn. We have learned big lessons during this event.”
In the next run, Germany will be placed in Pool E alongside teams from Italy, Brazil, and United States. Quite similarly, the team will play a total of three matches. In the first fixture, Germans will meet hosts Brazil. São Bernardo do Campo in Brazil will
