Germany defeat Belgium 3-1 in EuroHockey Nations Championship in Germany – Hockey Update
The German national Men’s hockey team defeated their Belgian counterparts by 3-1 in their opening Pool A match of the GANT EuroHockey Nations Championship (men), played at the Warsteiner HockeyPark in Monchengladbach, Germany on Saturday, August 20.
It was a very tough game played in a pretty competitive mode where both the teams remained scoreless in the first thirty five minutes in spite of some daring efforts while the second half was quite entertaining in which the Germans ticked the scoreboard
thrice while their opponents could manage only a single strike. The Germans dominated the game, not enough in the first half, which was evenly balanced between the sides. However, they dominated for most of the time in the second half in which they scored
three goals to snatch the important victory.
The first half started very slowly and both the teams picked the pace as the game moved forward but they remained goalless in the first thirty minutes. The Germans created a number of good chances by moving the ball beautifully among them but they remained
quite unlucky early in the match. The Belgian athletes also showed some good attacking moves but they also could not tick the score board in the first thirty five minutes. The first half was concluded at 0-0.
In the second half the Germans played some improved hockey as compared to the first half and scored three quick goals just in a span of 13 minutes while the Belgians could score only once. The Germans started the second half with a lot of aggression and
they looked quite attacking in their approach. The German took the lead just seven minutes into the second half when Thilo Stralkowski scored the opening goal in the 42nd minute and put the Germans ahead of the opponents by a single goal. The Germans
repeated the same story nine minutes after the first one when Florian Fuchs scored a beautiful field goal in the 51st minute and doubled their lead.
However, the Belgian athletes replied in four minutes after the second German goal and scored their opening goal in the 55th minute. The scorer was Jerome Dekeyser who converted a penalty corner into goal. The Germans also showed some desperate
efforts afterwards and scored their third goal of the match when Jan-Marco Montag scored the third and final goal of the match by making the full use of a penalty corner in the 57th minute. The match was concluded at 3-1 to Germany.
