Germany defeat Scotland by 5-2: Hockey Recap
The German hockey giants taught a hockey lesson to the Scottish men’s hockey team as they were defeated by 5-2 at the invitational four-nation tournament being played at Inverclyde in Scotland on June 12.
Having lost their first match, the Scottish team looked comparatively better in the first half of the second match. As the game started, the home side were given early chances and they were able to avail one of them to open their account in the opening minutes
of the first half, when Kenny Bain gave the final touch to a wonderful effort by Derek Salmond. Bain put his team ahead of Germany by one goal through a wonderful drag-flick shot, right into the goal-post. However, the Germans levelled the score in the 10th minute
and the scorer this time was Thilo Stralkowski.
In the remaining part of the first half, the Germans clearly dominated the play and scored three more goals in the first half. They kept on maintaining immense pressure on the home side and capitalised on their strikes until the end of first half, which
led them to score three goals in a short span of time.
The second goal was scored by Tobias Matania while the third was scored once again by Thilo Stralkowski, his second of the match. German’s fourth goal was scored a few minutes just a few minutes before the end of the first half. The scorer was Pilt Arnold.
However, just before in the dying moments of the first half, the Scottish side once again came with another goal, but this time it was Adam McKenzie who did the damage to the visitors and reduced the lead to 4-2 at the interval.
However, in the second half, both of the teams played defensive hockey and did not allow each other to make any severe penetration inside the opponent’s circle. But the Germans showed really a matchless display of hockey and created a number of good opportunities,
but thanks to Mark Fulton, the Scottish goal-keeper, who blocked some amazing shots.
On the other side, the Germans persistently continued with their furious pace and on a number of occasions they came very near to score another goal, but their best opportunity appeared lately in the second half, when Florian Fuchs scored the fifth goal
for Germany.
Scotland too continued their efforts to make a better impact but their efforts went in vain and the match concluded at 5-2 to the Germans.
