Germany defeats Argentina by 3-0 on last day of second round of FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship
Pool E was witness to a match between Germany and Argentina on the last day of the second round of the FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship that is currently taking place in Ankara, Turkey. On the August 18, the Germans were able to snap their losing streak
by making a clean sweep over Argentina.
The first set of the match was tight all through but the Germans were able to step up their game in the end and seal the deal on the opening set. When the second set started, the Germans were soaring high with the confidence generated from winning the previous
set while the Argentinean game experienced a downfall. Therefore, it was fairly easy for the Germans to bag the second as well as the third sets of the match. The final set scores stood at the following points at the end of the day: 25-21, 25-16 and 25-16.
The German coach, Jens Tietbohl, expressed himself at the press conference after the match and said, “We are happy. After some medical problems, my players played very well today. It was not easy to block the Argentinian spikers as they have a good technique.”
Guillermo Caceres, the coach of the Argentinean team, shared his feelings by giving the following statement: “We tried to put a lot of pressure on the German passers to control them in attack, but it was not easy. Germany played very well today. My players
have to deal with this kind of situation; the other teams are very strong in this competition phase.”
The first set of the match started off with both teams fighting hard to gain dominance on the courts. The match remained tight all along as the lead went back and forth between Germany and Argentina. However, as the opening set drew to its close, the Germans
put on a spurt of speed that took them all the way to 25-21.
The second set of the match started in favour of the Germans as they were able to take the lead early on and stick with it until the second technical time out at 16-10. When both sides came back onto the courts, the Germans were still leading by a comfortable
margin that earned them the set at 25-16.
The third set was similar to the others and the Argentineans could not step up their game appropriately to give the Germans a significant challenge and ended up losing the final set of the game at 16-25.
On the German side, two players were able to register the highest points in the entire match. Jennifer Geerties and Susanne Besa were able to grab 15 points each. The Argentinean, Maria Sol Calvete, was able to top her team by tallying seven points.
