Germany defeats Portugal by 3-1 in CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship match
A 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Men match took place on April 12. The city that played host to the competition was Ankara in Turkey. The two teams that made a show of their skills in the European qualifier tournament were that of Germany
as well as Portugal. The venue of the match was the Baskent sports hall.
It was the second match of the tournament for the German team as their first one was played on Wednesday with Slovakia. After handing out a defeat to the Slovakian squad, the Germans were able to come out strong in their second match as well. As a result,
the Germans won the match over the Portuguese by 3-1. The final set scores stood at the following points at the end of the day: 25-13, 21-25, 25-16 and 25-22.
The title of the best scorer of the match went to two of the German players. Both Ruben Schott and Jose Gomes were able to keep the pressure on their rivals by scoring a total of 15 points each.
The first set of the match started off with the Germans taking the lead for themselves with the coming of the first technical time out at 8-4. Not only that, the German squad was also able to stretch their advantage till the second technical time out at
16-9.
After that point, the Portuguese could not get themselves together and let the Germans speed up to grab the opening set of the game at 25-13.
The second set of the game started with the same pattern as the first one with the Germans in a leading position at the first technical time out at 8-7 and later on at the second technical time out at 16-14.
Despite their leading position, the Turkish were pushed behind by Portugal as they went on to make the match reach a tie by securing the second set of the game as well.
Unfortunately, for the Portugal squad, the second set was the only one which they could bag as the Germans took the third and the fourth one at 25-16 and 25-22 respectively.
