Germany defeats Turkey 3-1 in a FIVB Women’s World Grand Prix match – Volleyball news
A Pool I match of the Women’s 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix took place on Sunday, June 24. The two teams that contested against each other were Turkey and Germany. The match was hosted by Osaka, Japan. Turkey came into the match with the confidence of having
earned a ticket into the final round of the competition but the Germans proved to be more determined as they won the match by 3-1.
The score board showed the following final set scores: 24-26, 25-17, 25-18 and 25-15.
The coach of the German team, Giovanni Guidetti expressed his delight at the win in the following manner, “I want to congratulate my team on a great Grand Prix...They came and gave their best every day. Now, if we don’t make the finals, losing to the USA
and Brazil I cannot be angry with my team, but just with whoever made the pools.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Turkish squad, Motta Marco Aurelio, shared his views on the match outcome by making the following comments, “Congratulations to the German team for their performance in this tournament. In this match, we tried to give
our best...But they came out more stable in the second and controlled the match and controlled us.”
The highest score in the match was made by the German captain Margareta Kozuch who tallied a total of 22 points along with three blocks. Kozuch was helped by her team mate Maren Brinker who kept the pressure on the Turkish squad by adding 13 points of her
own that were accompanied by four blocks. On the Turkish side, the most active player was Bahar Toksoy with a team highest score of nine points.
The Turkish were able to secure an eventual lead at 10-6 in the opening set but the Germans did not let them go too far and tied the match at 14-14. After that point there were a few lead changes but the set reached a tie again at 24-24 before Turkey bagged
themselves the first frame of the game at 26-24.
The Germans came out strong in the second set and managed to take the lead at 6-3 but Turkey closed in the gap at 7-6. Before Turkey could swing things in their favour, Germany stretched their advantage first to 12-7 and then to 18-10. After that point,
it was only a matter of time before Germany was able to tie the match by winning the second set at 25-17.
The Germans were able to hold on to their momentum and take the advantage at 11-8 in the third set which extended to 19-13. The Turkish team kept trailing behind as Germany secured the third set at 25-18.
The fourth set of the game saw the Turkish perform half heartedly while the Germans were able to storm ahead and grab themselves a quick win at 25-15.
