Germany dominates Argentina at FIVB World Cup - Volleyball news
A FIVB World Cup match saw the Germans beat the Argentineans by 3-0 on November 13. The match between Germany and Argentina took place in Okayama, with the venue of the competition being the Momotaro Arena.
The match did not take long to come to its end as the Germans were able to dominate the court by making a clean sweep over their opponents. The Argentineans were able to match the skilful play of the Germans only in the first set but gave a increasingly
poor performance in the second as well as the third sets. Therefore, the only tough win for the Germans came in the opening set after which bagging the second as well as the third sets was easy. As a result, the Germans won the match at the following final
set scores: 25-22, 25-17 and 25-18.
The coach of the German team, Giovanni Guidetti, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “I’m very happy about today’s match because the team had a great reaction after losing
yesterday. The first set was not so easy for us. Argentina played good and have made good improvements in the last year. My team was very focused and I’m really happy.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Argentinean team, Horacio Bastit, explained his views in this manner: “Congratulations to my colleague for the win. We played well in the first set with good intensity, but Germany then made some key substitutions and
took control. After that, they put pressure on us with their serves and in the third set their attack and counter-attack were too much for us.”
The first set of the match reached a tie at 12-12 and later on at 21-21. However, the Italians were able to push themselves forwards and secure themselves the opening set at 25-22. The second set started off on even ground but as the frame progressed, the
Germans were able to pull up ahead and take the lead at 20-14 that finally gave them the set win at 25-17. The third set of the game went on the same pattern as its predecessor and the victory went to the Germans at 25-18.
The player that was able to post the highest number of points amongst both the teams was Germany’s Angelina Grun who was able to tally a total of 15 points for her side. Grun was helped by her teammate Corina Ssuschke-Voigt who kept the pressure on her opponents
by adding 13 points of her own. Germany’s Christiane Furst also made her presence felt by putting up a total of 10 points. On the other hand, the most active player on the Argentinean side was Lucia Fresco with a total of 12 points.
