Germany down Spain 3-1 in EuroHockey Nations Championship in Monchengladbach, Germany
The second half show by the German athletes guided them to a well deserving victory over Spain as the defeated the Spanish athletes by 3-1 in their second Pool A match in the EuroHockey Nations Championship (Men) played at Warsteiner HockeyPark in Monchengladbach,
Germany on Monday, August 22.
The German athletes ruled the most part of the match and especially the second part of the game in which they scored all of their three goals while in the early part of the game they remained scoreless. Their opponents also ticked the scoreboard only for
once in the second half while they too remained goalless in the first part. The game was played on a high tempo where the Germans controlled the ball for most of the time and dictated the Spanish on their own terms throughout the match. Although the first
was evenly balanced between the sides yet the Germans outclassed the Spanish in the second part of the game.
The Spaniards started the first half on a positive and attacking note as they created a number of early chances but the hosts, Germans, not only defended quite well but they also created a couple of beautiful scoring chances by making counterattack in the
Spanish circle. However, they failed to make any impression to the score board which remained unmoved until the interval. The first half was ended at 0-0.
The second half totally belonged to the Germans as they put great pressure on the Spanish defence line from the starting moments of the second half and scored their opening goal of the match just six minutes into the game when Christopher Wesley made a wonderful
field strike in the 41st minute and put Germany to a single strike lead. The Germans again looked in action just seven minutes after the opener but this time Thilo Stralkowski was the contributor who scored another superb field goal in the 48th
minute and thus doubled the German lead.
The Germans continued with the similar pace in the remaining time of the game and once again seemed in action just five minutes before the end of the play when Moritz Furste completed their score line in the 65th minute with a wonderful field
goal. However, in the dying moments of the match, Eduard Tubau added some respect to the Spanish camp as he scored the first goal of the match for Spain in the 69th minute, but it was too late for Spain to come back in the contest. The Germans put
in a brilliant display and played aggressively to the victory 3-1 over Spain.
