Germany hammers Romania in preliminary round, Group B: Day eight – European Water Polo Championships
German senior national squad has hammered Romania in their fifth Men’s water polo preliminary match of Group ‘B’ on day eight of the continued 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Monday, January 23 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband
Swim Stadium.
The arena enjoyed furious efforts of both teams in the four-quarter game while Germany claimed victory by a margin of just one goal. The Romanian team failed to impress their fans in the tournament and lost the match with a 10-9 deficit from Germany.
The European Championships are very fundamental as they precede the 2012 London Olympic Games. They provide an opportunity to all international teams to play against each other and improve their deficiencies before the London Games.
The first quarter of the game was dominated by German team that proved its supremacy by accomplishing four goals. On the contrary, Romanian squad was able to add just two goals on the scorecard and the score remained 4-2 after the first round.
The second quarter saw outstanding efforts of Romanian team that went rampant and scored three goals. Their effort was trailed by just two goals from the German team and the score went up to 6-5 after the first half.
Both teams elevated their efforts to prove dominance over each other in the third quarter, but they failed to do so. Romania scored two goals in the third round while their effort was levelled out by German squad, which also notched up two goals, making
the score 8-7 after the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was considerably tougher than the previous ones as Romania needed to score just one more goal from their challenging team to draw the match, but they failed and once again, both teams achieved two goals each.
The session ended after the completion of all scheduled matches while the arena admired incredible efforts of all teams in their respective matches. After winning the match, Germany has elevated to third position in the overall rankings list.
In addition, Germany is now planned to compete with Italy in the quarterfinal on Wednesday, January 25.
