Germany maintains its dominance on day 2 of 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship
Following a wonderful feat on day-1 of the 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship, the German squad repeated the terrific act on the second day of the competition.
Germany defeated underdog Lithuania without putting much effort on Thursday, April 12. It took them less than an hour to post 3-0 (25-13, 25-5, 25-20) victory over Lithuania, which is still without any victory in the competition.
The opposite Carina AULENBROCK played an instrumental role in Germany’s victory. She contributed 12 winning spikes and displayed an incredible action of volleyball throughout the match. Carina was credited for match-high 17 points. None of the Lithuania
players could penetrate the power of her unstoppable spikes and aces.
The girls around head coach Han Abbing opened the match with convincing serves. They covered every inch of their half and stood like a concrete wall for the opponent. Lithuania had an inexperienced line-up and appeared as no match for strong German team.
GRYKA Magdalena of Germany provided plenty of power to the ball and served with great accuracy and precision. The ball frequently landed on Lithuania’s half, while Germany improved on the scoreboard. Visiting team asked for two timeouts during the first
frame but the situation remained unchanged. Germany finished the opening set in 21 minutes and the final score was 25-15.
The loss of opening set further influenced the performance of Lithuanian squad. They seemed totally flabbergasted by the heavy strike of volleys from German side. Carina and Keil of Germany showed no mercy and produced mighty shots, which promptly hit the
ground. German players were all over the place and it seemed as if the ball just needed the touch of their hands and it would kiss the ground.
With feeble attack attempts, Lithuania hitters failed to break through German defence. As a result, Lithuania scored only five points in second set whereas Germany improved to 2-0 by winning the set.
Third set brought no better luck for Lithuania. They constantly remained in cold waters and failed to come out of the blues.
Germany, on the other hand, took full advantage of the nervousness of opposite team and quickly covered the length of third set. They put an end to third set and also to the match in 59thminute of the game.
Germany is now all set to clash with France in the next meeting on Friday. French team dropped its opening match of the second round but managed to claim victory on day-2.
Comparatively saying, France will not be easy to take on. However, the German girls are pretty pumped-up after scoring two victories in row. The two teams will meet at 20:00 (local time) at the same arena in Mogilev, Belarus.
