  1. There is no list of speed limits. As a rule of thumb routes near bigger cities have a speed limit of about 100 to 130 km/h (and not to speak of the heavy traffic).

    That said, the A20 along the Baltic Sea is brand new with light traffic, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundesautob... .

  2. ALL german motorways are now governed by speed limits - you are too late by about 21 months

  3. "Autobahns" are the larger roads and usually have the letter A in front of the road...A3, A6, A8, A5 to name a few.  There are speed limit signs posted for every road. Just remember, that although you may go fast on the autobahn, that your gas mileage goes out the window with your speeds. It is best to maintain a more sane speed in the right hand lanes and let the guys that are ruling the fast lane in their Mazeratis or even their plain Audis just go by. You will find that you don't want to go as fast as they are after a while because it is insane at times. The first time you see a wreck on the side of the road where the car is cut in half and no one survived...you won't want to drive like that anymore. Buy a shirt at one of the gas stations on the road that say  "I survived the Autobahn" tho!

    Have fun and good luck! =)

  4. You are a bit vague, to say the least. You plan to travel through Germany.  So......... Is it 'Denmark to Austria', Belgium to Poland, Netherlands to Czech Republic, France to Lithuania etc. etc. etc.

    Are you sure you know where Germany is.  :o)

    However:- The State (or Province) of Bremen in Northern Germany has just last month introduced a mandatory speed limit of 120k.p.h. (75m.p.h.) and others are expected to follow suit. Having said that, there has for many years, been a 'recommended' speed limit of 130k.p.h., and if the police thought you were driving dangerously or irresponsibly over that speed you were still liable to prosecution.

    So, to sum it all up. Get your skates on and get there before the laws are changed

  5. Variable speed limiting is now common on autobahns.

    Just look to the overhead electronic signs for the "all clear" derestricted sign.

  6. A 3 Leverkusen. -->. Oberhausen

    A 5 Darmstadt --> Frankfurt

    A 6 AK Frankenthal --> AD Viernheim

    A 6 AK Landstuhl -->Metz/Paris

    A 48 Koblenz -->  Trier

    A 62 AD Nonnweiler --> AK Landstuhl

    A 63 Kaiserslautern (Sembach) --> Mainz.

    A 81 Stuttgart --> Singen

  7. All the Germans in need of organ transplants will bless you in their prayers.

  8. Autobahns have an A in front of the number and are marked with blue signs, therefore their numbers on German maps are also within a blue sign. There is no official speed limit on any of them, but many speed limit zones, and in summer: construction sites. But you'll find enough places where you can drive faster than the recommended 130 km/h.

    Finding your way without a navigation system may be a bit tricky, as no sign tells you whether you're heading east, west, north or south. Instead, the signs will tell you the major cities the Autobahn leads to, and the distance in km. So if your destination isn't a bigger city, you should know the name of one nearby to find the right direction.

    I thought you might be interested in a map of all the Autobahns:

    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Autoba...

    It's the third largest highway network in the world (12,044 km) -- behind the USA (75,376 km) and China (45,400 km).

    Also have a look at the German WIkipedia entry about Autobahns, and be it only for the pictures:

    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autobahn_(D...

    Have fun, but drive carefully! I personally prefer a speed of about 160 km/h. That's actually not very fast, but a decent travel speed.
