Germany overpower Croatia in preliminary round, Group B: Day six – European Water Polo Championships
German squad impressed their fans by overpowering Croatian team in their fourth Men’s water polo preliminary match of Group ‘B’ on day six of the ongoing 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Saturday, January 21 at the Pieter
van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
The German team experienced strong resistance from Croatian squad in the four-quarter game, but with their continued efforts, they managed to take the lead of one goal and enjoyed a 10-9 win over Croatia.
The initial goal of the game was scored by Croatia’s Miho Boskovic, who managed to ascend his team on the scorecard in the first minute of the match. In contrast, German players made no mistake and crushed all hopes of their competitors by clinching three
goals and the score remained 3-1 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, German players elevated their efforts and shattered all hopes of their challenging team by accomplishing four goals. On the other hand, Croatian team failed to show any significant improvement on the scorecard and responded by achieving
just two goals. With their laudable efforts, the Germans extended their lead to four goals as the score remained 7-3 after the first half.
Nevertheless, the situation was reversed in the third quarter, where the Croatian team fought back and asserted their supremacy over Germany. Croatia succeeded in achieving two goals in third round while Germany was able to score a single goal only and the
score went up to 8-5.
The fourth quarter was surprisingly tough, where the Croatian team accomplished four goals and Germany found the cage twice. The Croatian team tried hard to add one more goal to their points list as this would have drawn the match but German players blocked
all their goal attempts and won the match by a margin of just one goal.
Marko Stamm of Germany accomplished four goals in the game and was declared player of the match for playing an important role in his team’s success. In addition, Germany is now scheduled to compete with Romania in their fifth water polo match on Monday,
January 23.
