Germany...?

Question

I've been to Germany but not since I was in my teens. I'm going up for Oktoberfest, and will be staying at the Mandarin Oriental in Munich. What is the best authentic restaurants to eat at? I've heard of one called The Haughfner Haus, although I believe the spelling is wrong. Appreciate any help.

Hofbräu Haus is right - but really not the best.

Of course well known and expensive.

There you will never get really authentic german food. You'll get there the Bavarian Food

:

Weißwurst, Brezel and so on.

Weißwurst is a white,soft sausage and you will enjoy that with sweet mustard.

(I've tried it once - NEVER more)

The Hofbräu Haus Beer is very good if you will learn more about the rest room architecture.

When you go to germany look for Restaurants and pubs with this words,

Bürgerliche Küche, Hausmannskost

Try to get Schweinebraten mit Rotkohl und Klößen

(Roast Pork with red cabbage and squenelles)

Sauerbraten (roasted beef in a dark sauce)

Holsteiner Schnitzel (crusted escalope with a fried egg - sunny side up - )carrots, green peas and boiled potatoes.

Another favourite is Reibekuchen.

(Hot Potatoe Cookies with stewed appels)

Theres a lot of good food, but the Weißwurst is only for bavarians.

Try really good beers (not Hofbräu or Paulaner)

The best are Bitburger, Krombacher, Jever, Brinkhoffs

and dark Beer (its called Alt Bier)= Diebels

Weizenbier = Erdinger, Franziskaner, Flensburger, König Ludwig

Bock Bier = is a little bit stronger than the other

The Hofbraeuhaus is one of Germany's oldest family breweries and a leading tourist attraction in Munich. While it's certainly known for it's upscale decor and fine foods I believe with a little research you will see that there are many great places to eat in Munich, many of them small out of the way eateries serving genuine Bavarian dishes to genuine Bavarian guests.
