Germany qualifies for Olympics by defeating Czech Republic by 3-1 – Volleyball news
The German men’s national volleyball team has been able to secure the Olympic ticket in a match of the FIVB Men’s African Qualification tournament played on June 10, 2012 with Czech Republic.
The German capital Berlin staged the show in the Schmeling Hall on Sunday.
The recent win was the third consecutive time that Germany was able to earn a win in the tournament. The victory that got Germany to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games was obtained after four tough sets. Despite the fact that the Czech Republic was
playing in the home ground of their rivals, they gave Germany a good deal of competition which is shown by the following final set scores: 25-22, 23-25, 25-22 and 25-21.
The German coach, Vital Heynen, expressed his jubilation at getting the Olympic ticket in the following words, “It was the toughest day of the tournament. We needed the win while the Czech Republic didn't mind about winning or not winning. It wasn’t a very
good game. We didn't show our full potential but it was enough. We didn't prove ourselves by playing nice volleyball but by working hard.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Czech Republic squad, Stewart Bernard, shared his views by giving the following comments, “My boys played well and fought hard. We improved our game within the tournament. I'm proud of the team, I know they can have a
good future. I'm happy also for Germany.”
The top scorer of the match was the German player György Grozer with a total of 28 points while the most active player on the Czech Republic side was Jan Stokr with a score of 19.
The first set started off with a severe clash between the two sides as no team was letting the other take the lead for a long time. The frame was still tied at 20-20 but the home team bagged the opening frame at 25-22.
Czech Republic was able to make the match even by securing the second frame at 25-23 however; Germany managed to prevail in the next set as they propelled themselves forward to secure a win at 25-22. The fourth set of the match went on in the same fashion
as all the rest with the result that the Germans got another victory at 25-21.
The recent match has enabled the Germans to pull off an unbeaten record in the tournament while the Czech Republic squad has only managed one win with two defeats to shoulder.
