Germany smacks China by 4-1 in 2011 Rabo FIH Champions Trophy: Hockey News
The German women have scored their biggest ever victory against the Chinese women in all of their 29 international encounters, beating them by 4-1 at 2011 Rabo FIH Women’s Champions Trophy being played at Wagner Stadium, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on June
30.
With this victory, the Germans have now won 11 out of their last 12 matches against China in all international events, while at the same time they have defeated the Chinese women in eight out of nine matches at Champions Trophy event, including six consecutive
victories.
The German women were matchless for the Chinese during the match and especially in the second half, in which they made three out of their strikes, while the first half was evenly balanced between both the teams as they scored only a single goal in first
thirty five minutes.
With the conclusion of this match the play-offs have also been decided as Germany will take on China once again on Sunday, July 3 for the 7th and 8th position match where Chinese will be aiming to take the revenge of their worst ever
defeat against Germany.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Hockeyroos will be up against England for the 5th and 6th position play-off also on Sunday.
The match started with a lot of entertainment as both the opponents had early chances, but it was Germany which succeeded to take the early lead in the 8th minute, when Celine Wilde made through the Chinese defence and fired a stunning shot on
the Chinese goal-post to put her team ahead by one goal. The Chinese women took only ten minutes to equalise the score, when Gao Lihua did the job for China in the 18th minute and brought her team back into the match. The first half ended at 1-1
level.
In the second half, the Germans were simply awesome scoring a goal after every twelve minutes on average and left the Chinese as mere spectators in the first twenty minutes of the second half, scoring their three goals in this time. Maike Stockel, Marie
Mavers and Celine Wilde were the scorers for the Germans.
