Germany sweeps Italy in Pool E match of Women World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
One of the Pool E matches of the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix – Women took place on June 17, 2012 in the Brazilian city of Sao Bernardo.
The sides that contested with each other in the competition were that of Germany and Italy. The match took three sets to reach its close with the German squad securing the win.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 30-28, 25-13 and 26-24
The first frame of the match was highly competitive as no side was letting the other get away with the advantage. However, the Germans were able to prevail and propel themselves forward in the second set as well as the Italians seemed to have lost their
steam. Italy managed to rebound in the third set but the effort was not enough to turn the tables in their favour.
The German coach, Giovanni Guidetti, shared his joy at the win by making the following comments, “I am really proud of my team as we won all the matches we were able to win so far. We only lost to the United States, twice, and to Brazil, once, which are
two of the top teams in the world.”
On the other hand, the Italian coach, Marco Bracci, expressed his sentiments by giving the following statements, “I regret this result, especially because we played real bad in the second set. In the first and third sets, we had an advantage, but could not
handle with that. I believe the players felt tired after a long and tough match against Brazil last night.”
The player with the highest number of points in the match was the German captain Margareta Kozuch who tallied a total of 17 points and kept the pressure on her rivals all through the match. The most active player on the Italian side was Serena Ortolani with
15 points of her own.
The German squad will find itself facing Japan, Turkey and Korea in Osaka next while the Italians will move on to matches in Kaohsiung where they will find Chinese Taipei, Poland and Dominican Republic waiting.
With the weekend come to its close, the next Grand Prix matches will take place next week.
