Germany sweeps Kenya in a FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball news
The FIVB World Cup women’s championships started off today, November 4, in Japan. The matches are being held in Nagano and Hiroshima. In one of the opening matches of the tournament, the Germans were able to defeat the Kenyans by winning three back to back
sets.
Not only were the Germans able to make a clean sweep over the Kenyan players, they did so by winning each set by an increasingly comfortable margin. The first set started off evenly but the Kenyans fell back as the Germans asserted themselves and took control.
The loss of the opening set of the game did not do much to improve the spirits of the Kenyans and they showed a demotivated performance as the Germans were going strong and sped towards another win. The loss of two sets weighed down greatly upon the Kenyans
and they were smothered by the Germans, who won the match at the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-14 and 25-8.
The coach of the German team, Giovanni Guidetti, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “I’d like to congratulate the Kenya team because I think it’s a pleasure to see the spirit
of this team celebrating every point and always fighting. We have something to learn from this team because they played with such a good spirit. I’m happy with the win.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Kenyan team, Paul Bitok, shared his feelings in the following manner: “I’d like to congratulate Germany for their win. Germany are a good team and we knew they would be stronger than us. We went in to see if we could get
a set off them, but they contained us when we put pressure on them. In the third set, we couldn’t receive and lost concentration as the Germans served very strong.”
The opening set of the match started off with a German lead of 9-2 but the Kenyans were able to close in the gap to within four points later on. However, the Germans did not let the Koreans bypass them and were able to bag the first set of the game at 25-19.
The second set reached a tie at 10-10 but the Germans were able to extend their lead to 20-13. That also helped them to secure the second frame at 25-14. After the second frame, the third one came easy at 25-8.
The player that was named the Most Impressive Player of the match was Angelina Grun of Germany, who made her mark by becoming the top scorer after registering a total of 11 points in the entire match.
