Germany sweeps Korea in a FIVB Women World Grand Prix match – Volleyball news
A Pool I match of the FIVB World Grand Prix – Women took place between Germany and Korea on June 23, 2012. The match took place in the Japanese city of Osaka and got to its close in an hour and 11 minutes with a sweeping win for the Germans that came about after a superior performance at the courts which smothered the Koreans.
The score board showed the following final set scores: 25-10, 25-14 and 25-20.
The German coach Giovanni Guidetti, shared his satisfaction at winning the match in the following words, “I think tonight we played a consistent match; we were precise in our technique and our blocking. Our serving and defence interrupted Korea’s attack and our setter could side-out well. We’re looking forward to tomorrow, and we want to win as many matches as we can, and see if it’s enough to go to the final.”
On the other hand, the Korean coach, Kim Hyung-Sil, expressed his sentiments by giving the following statements, “Our team has four members with injury but we’re doing our best with the rest of our members. For tomorrow, we want to perform well.”
The German player, Corina Ssuschke-Voigt, was able to bag the title of the top scorer of the match by putting up a score of 14 points along with four blocks for her side. On the other hand, the highest number of points scored by the Korean side was seven, which were contributed by Jung Dae-Young and Han Yoo-Mi each.
The Germans propelled themselves from the start of the opening set to take the lead at 6-0 and were able to overpower their rivals by keeping the advantage till 10-4. The Koreans could do nothing much except make a feeble attempt to turn the tables as the Germans flew to an 18-7 lead that kept on stretching till 22-10. Korea stood helpless as Germany bagged the first set of the match at 25-10.
The Koreans tried to amend matters by keeping strong in the second set and they were successful to an extent as Korea made the frame reach a tie at 7-7. However, the Germans did not allow their rivals to gain any more control as they added the next 11 points to the score board, leaving the Koreans de-motivated by taking the lead at 18-8 that did not take much time to translate into a second set win at 25-14.
The loss of the first two sets of the match had a dampening effect on the game of the Korean players as they fell to making errors in the third set which gave the lead away to the Germans at 7-2. Germany extended their advantage to 10-3. Korea brought the score close at 14-10 but Germany did not let them hold sway as they sped off to secure the third frame at 25-20.
