I'm going to Germany this summer for 2-3 weeks and was just wondering what some good area are. I don't want to go to Berlin but I am going to Munich. I would really like to go to some little random town or villages to experience the culture. I speak a little German so I should be able to get around fine. Any advice or tips would be great. Thanks!!

  1. As mentioned above you might want to tranvel the Romantische Straße (romantic street).

This street guides you through different towns with historic background. Check out https://www.romantischestrasse.de/?lang=... for mor information.

  2. Just a bit southeast of Munich is the 'Romantic Road'.  I've traveled it a few times.  GREAT trip!  Also, Try to get to 'Kloster Andechs'.  Great food, beer, schnapps, etc.  Try a VolksMarsch while you are there.  It is a 10-20 km walk through the woods and farms.  A nice way to meet people.  You "win" a medal or a small plate (taler) for the hike.

Have lots of fun.  The Germans are really nice people to meet.

By the way, I hope if you go to Passau.  The cathedral in that city has the largest pipe organ in Germany.  Oh, Lordy!! What a glorious sound.  You can get info about when to hear the pipes from the tourist bureau or the cathedral itself.

  3. hey there, i have lived in germany for 2 1/2 yrs so ive done my share of traveling aound those parts. if you are looking to stay in munich, there is a tourist office that can basically point you in whatever direction ud like. there is a place called garmisch which is in the barvarian alps. its beautiful there! if you are into skiing then thats the place. also it has a cool town with shopping and great food. there is also places around there that are neat like, Neuschwanstein castle or the dachau camp. if you want to go further north you can take the train (DB) www.bahn.de they have a happy weekend ticket that can take you anywhere in germany for 30 euros. its an awesome deal. also, id highly suggest going to the rhine river. they have boat tours there that are awesome. they take you to little towns like St. Goar, Bingen, and my favorite which i think is exactly what you're looking for... Rüdesheim. gotta go there. awesome food, people are nice and some of them speak english. well i hope this helps you out and if you have any questions... .please let me know.

  4. Best season to travel Germany as I live not far from Munich I quite know the region .

A bit hard to give some advice without haveing an idea of your interests...

The city I live is Passau 170 km from munich it is an old city ounded in roman times so many historic buildings ...just to give an example.

Feel free to contat me through my profile on here if you feel i could give some advice.

  5. Check out the Rhine River Valley. Gorgeous, looks just like the postcards. You can take daytrips on the river on big boats with sundecks and chairs, and you can take a train back for cheap. I don't speak any German and found little difficulty finding my way through the trains. Many people speak at least a little English, especially the younger ones..

  6. Munich is a great place to start (but VERY expensive).

In Munich - tour the city's sites with Gray Line (see link below), Olympiapark, Schloss Nymphenburg, Hofbrauhaus, the Beer Gardens, Marienplatz, Glockenspiel am Rathausturm, Schwabing, Maximillianstrasse (very elegant shopping and VERY expensive).

Check out Dachau (they have a lovely Stadtfest - city festival) and, historically, Dachau is someplace you should see.

Oberammergau - home of the Passion Play - is another "must see".

Garmish-Partenkirchen - whether you're a skier or not - is a lovely town.  Make sure you have your camera ready for when the cows come home.

  7. If you want to stay in Munich and Bavaria, you have a lot of informations here.. but if you want to share your time.. than go and visit Düsseldorf, too.

  9. Try something new: Stade, Lueneburg, Luebeck - medieval cities in the north and there are few American tourists. U can spend the evenings in Hamburg - Germany´s shopping, nightlife and entertainment capital; with many beautiful sights as well. I travel there every year. I love Hamburg.
