Germany v Australia half time report
Germany 2 Australia 0
Goals from Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose have established a two goal lead for a rampant Germany in their opening Group D fixture at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, as Australia have been made to suffer.
Podolski smashed the Germans in front after just eight minutes, as he powered a Thomas Muller cutback past Mark Schwarzer for his 39th international goal.
Klose - who missed a glorious opportunity from a Podolski cross - was soon making it 2-0, beating Schwarzer and Lucas Neill to a pinpoint Lahm cross, heading the Germans into what is surely a decisive two goal lead, and scoring his 11th goal in World Cup finals football in the process.
The Aussies have offered little, with Richard Garcia going close early on, and Germany will wonder how they haven't extended their lead, as Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira both went close.
