Germany’s Carola Bott wins her first major title in the Slovenia International 2011 – Badminton News
Germany’s Women’s Singles player, Carola Bott, has won her first major title at the Slovenia International 2011, at Medvode, Slovenia, on May 17.
Carola, who is known as “Anna Kournikova of badminton” because of her pleasant looks, has made her presence felt at the international stage. Her victory came on the right time as she will be awarded the ranking points which will help her in getting a place
in the 2012 London Olympics.
The German proved her worth by beating the experienced opponent, Nanna Vainio of Finland, in the final of the event. Her victory in the Slovenia International will bring her in the Top-100 of the Women’s Singles world rankings.
Carola finished the final match against her opponent in just two sets with a stunning margin. Carola started the game in a superb way by controlling the bird from all areas of the court. She was moving around in the court with ease and her strokes were landing
on perfect areas. She was ahead of Nanna at 11-7 at the end of the first half of the opening set.
After taking rest for 60 seconds, Carola extended her lead by playing a near perfect game. Nanna could not find gaps in the opponent's court and lost the opening set 21-13.
In the second game, Nanna made many mistakes in the start of the set which helped Carola build a comfortable lead of 11-5 in the opening half. The German was playing at her best in the title match, where she spared no room for Nanny to fight back. Carola
finished the second game with a stunning margin of 21-10.
This win over Nanna in the final of the Slovenia Open 2011, has boosted the confidence of Carola, who is very happy with her first international victory. The German is determined to continue her impressive run in the upcoming events.
